HOW DO OILS WORK

Your Go-To Source

If you have ever enjoyed the scent of a rose, you’ve experienced the aromatic qualities of essential oils. These naturally occurring, volatile aromatic compounds are found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants.

What exactly is a volatile aromatic compound? In short, these compounds are small organic molecules that tend to change quickly from their solid or liquid state to a gas at room temperature. They are called volatile because they change state quickly. When you first open a bottle of essential oil, you instantly notice that the aroma is potent and you can smell it typically even from some distance. The physical and chemical properties of the volatile aromatic compounds that compose essential oils allow them to quickly move through the air and directly interact with the olfactory sensors in the nose. Such unique properties make essential oils ideal for applications inclusion in aromatherapy – using these compounds from plants to help maintain a healthy mind and body – as well as other applications. The type of volatile aromatic compounds present in an essential oil determines both the oil’s aroma and the benefits it offers.

Over 3,000 varieties of volatile aromatic compounds have been identified to date. The nature of an essential oil varies from plant to plant, within botanical families, and from species to species. The delicate ratio of aromatic constituents found in any given essential oil are what make it unique and give it specific benefits. For example, almost all citrus oils contain a compound called limonene. Some of these studied effects of limonene include:

  • Elevated mood

  • Stress relief

  • Antifungal properties

  • Antibacterial properties

  • Supporting a healthy gut

  • Supporting the body's natural detoxification systems

Essential oils can be used for a wide range of emotional and physical wellness applications. They can be used as single essential oils or in complex essential oil blends depending on user experience and desired benefit.

WHY DOTERRA?

Change your Life, One drop at a Time

A few years ago, I was traveling for depositions, sick as a dog, and in the holiday blahs. I uber-ed to Whole Foods for juice and saw a travel diffuser. I have always loved lavender, have a large bed of it in my garden, and wanted to feel soothed. So I grabbed the diffuser, so lavender essential oil, and lavender essential oils bath soak.

And it did...nothing.

Okay, it made my room smell like fragrance instead of hotel room, but it didn't smell like my plant. I didn't have the feeling of calm I did working in the garden.

So I popped an anxiety pill, had a drink, and added bubbles to my bath. I liked that my room had a fragrance, but I was bummed that it didn't actually make me feel anything.

A few years later, still struggling with stomach issues and desperately trying to lower my dosage of those anxiety pills I used to "pop" (and give up drinking), I started researching essential oils again after talking to my doc about how they could support my mental health as I lowered my dose of medicine.

I found doTERRA.

Again, I tried lavender (and a few other things). When I opened the bottle and inhaled, I said "I love lavender" because I FELT like I was in my garden.

And I opened the newest version of that old bottle from Whole Foods and smelled. Immediately, I could smell something NOT lavender, like when you catch a sniff of the laundry detergent aisle.

I began adding a drop of lavender to my tea, and began studying my holy 3: rigorous scientific CTG testing, co-impact sourcing, and service to the world.

I was hooked on the oils.

I cook with them, clean with them, use them on my hair, body, and skin, diffuse them around my home, car, and office, and take them internally.

But that's just me.

Sometimes, all you might need is real lavender.
